Effort is the one and only thing an athlete can control. If playing hard for yourself and the thrill of victory is not enough how about playing hard for your teamates, for your coaches, for the fans and most importantly for the owner of the team(the guy writing your paychecks). Facing elimantion team USA stepped their game up and will advance to the final 16 with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Algeria.  USA completely dominated the second half  but were running out of time when the clock hit 90 minutes. That’s when the unbelievable happened. With just 4 minutes remaining in the injury time Landon Donovan shocked the world with a beautiful goal from 8 yards out. The Rays starting pitching is no doubt the strong point of the team and carried them early in the season to a first place record. With the hitting and defense not nearly as strong as years past it is even more important for the starters to keep them in the game.
