Thanks to everyone for playing in Bring the Lumber! Congratulations to 727 Reloaded!
The “Bring the Lumber” softball tournament is in the books! It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Whitesell Softball Complex in Largo. Some of the nicest fields in the Tampa Bay area hosted this great tournament.
Each team would face off in 4 divisional games to see which two were best and would advance to the championship game. 727 Reloaded made a statement in their early game, beating the Latin Hitters 23-2. 727 hit line drives all over the field, up and down the lineup to score early and often. In the other early game, The Tournament Team held on for a 9-7 win behind some solid defense and clutch pitching from Joe Major.
In an 11:00 game, 727 Reloaded got their 2nd win, beating J Wood 11-10 in the closest game of the day. A walk-off hit from 727 in the bottom of the 7th proved to be the difference. During the last pair of divisional games, 727 Reloaded had already locked up the #1 overall seed at 3-0 while 3 other teams had a shot at the remaining title game slot. The Tournament Team had a bye, finishing at 2-2 and needing some help. They wouldn’t get it however as J Wood beat the Latin Hitters 10-0. In the other game, Jager Mafia needed to beat 727 Reloaded to advance, or else J Wood would advance. Jager Mafia held the lead up until the 5th inning, but 727 exploded for a couple big innings to get the win. That set up the title game: #2 seed J Wood (2-2) against #1 seed 727 Reloaded (4-0).
J Wood looked to avenge their divisional play loss in the title game. They kept it close throughout, trailing only 9-7 after the top of the 5th. But, 727 Reloaded put up 3 runs in an inning for the 3rd time in the game, this time in the 5th inning. That would give them a 5 run lead and although J Wood loaded the bases with no outs in the 7th, could only get 1 run and would fall to 727 Reloaded, 12-8. Congratulations to 727 Reloaded for winning the 2010 Bring the Lumber softball tournament!
