The Main Event of the “Feel the Heat” Summer Tournament Series is in the books.  Crunch Time Sports would like to congratulate Chuck’s Natural Food Marketplace and Muck City Softball for winning the Crunch Cups!  They are the winners of the Competitive and Recreational brackets, respectively.

The action got underway at 9:00 Saturday morning as the teams took the field for the first of their 3 divisional games.  Chuck’s Natural Food Marketplace, ITT Tech, Team Speed Gel, and Muck City Softball got off to quick starts with wins in the first games.  After two more divisional games and an hour break, the divisional play was done and the teams waited to discover their playoff fate.

The top two teams in Division A were Chuck’s Natural Food Marketplace and Oakhurst Tavern.  Chuck’s, the Feel the Heat Warm-Up champs, won all three of their divisional games with an impressive run differential to cement themselves as the #1 seed in the Competitive Bracket.  Oakhurst Tavern fought back after a tough loss to Chuck’s in the first game to win their next two and move forward into the Competitive Bracket.  Division A’s other two teams, Gator Dredging and ITT Tech, moved on to the Recreational Bracket.  In Division B, Team Speed Gel came out on a mission as they looked forward to a rematch with Chuck’s in the title game.  They would go undefeated in divisional play to lock up the #2 seed in the Competitive.  The Decision Makers fell to Speed Gel in a great game during 9:00 divisional play, but bounced back to win two in a row including a very close game over Muck City Softball.  They locked up their spot in the Competitive Bracket with the division’s other two teams, Muck City Softball and Jager Mafia, moving on to the Recreational Bracket.

#1 seeded Muck City Softball would get an easy win over Jager Mafia in the Recreational Bracket’s first semifinal by the score of 12-3.  Muck City got a big 6-run first inning and never looked back.  In the other Recreational semifinal, ITT Tech fought off a late rally from Gator Dredging to win a nail-biter, 11-10.  Gator put up 4 in the 7th and final inning but it wasn’t quite enough as ITT got a double play with the bases loaded to end it.  In the Recreational championship game, Muck City once again got off to a fast start, leading 6-0 after 2 innings.  The team that came all the way from the Everglades would hang on for the 7-3 win behind a big game from leadoff hitter B-Knoc and a solid pitching performance from Allen.  Congratulations to Muck City Softball!  Please click here to view the box score from this game.

In the Competitive Bracket’s first semifinal, #1 seeded Chuck’s Natural Food Marketplace took down Oakhurst Tavern, 19-9. Oakhurst played a good game against the #1 overall seed but came up a little short, as Chuck’s big 10-run 5th inning proved to be the difference.  In the second semifinal, Team Speed Gel used their famous formula of power hitting and strong defense to march on to an 11-1 victory over the Decision Makers.  The Competitive finals were set, and it would be a rematch of the Warm-Up as Chuck’s Natural faced off against Speed Gel.  Speed Gel would get off to an early 4-1 lead after 2 innings, holding down Chucks’ potent bats.  However, their bats would wake up in the 3rd, scoring 7 runs to take an 8-4 lead.  Each team would tack on a few more runs, but they would make no difference in the outcome as Chuck’s won the game 12-7 and got their second straight tournament win.  They were paced by 3 big RBIs from Keith Buss and 2 RBIs each from the Miller father-son duo, Mark and John.  Congratulations to Chuck’s Natural Food Marketplace!  Please click here to view the box score from this game.
