The 2010 “It’s Raining Corn” cornhole tournament is in the books, and congratulations to Chad and Andrew of the Hookers & Hangers for winning the title and their first Crunch Cup! They defeated the two-time defending champs, Matt and Cody of ACO Florida. Divisional play started sharply at noon as the first games got underway with some beautiful weather above. However, the blue skies wouldn’t hold up as the rain started to come down during divisional play. After a 90-minute rain delay, the teams returned eager to play. Divisional play would then wrap up with two undefeated teams, ACO Florida and the Hookers & Hangers. However this generous structure allowed for ALL teams to make the playoffs, giving everyone a chance to forget about their tough games and strive for the title. In the first semifinal, the Hookers & Hangers got past Sherry and Bob of Team BS in two straight games. Team BS rebounded from a blowout in game 1 and led 20-18 late in game 2, but came up a little short (however, they did receive 2 free pints of Guinness for losing 20-10!). In the second semifinal, heavily favored ACO Florida easily got past the Young Guns in two straight games, 21-7 and 21-4. This would then set up a final between the two teams yet to lose in the tournament. Game 1 of the finals was a closely contested, back-and-forth affair. The Hookers & Hangers used consistent play all the way through to get the 21-15 win. In game 2, ACO looked to make a statement and did early on, leading 17-8 after 11 innings. However, the next 4 innings would go to Chad and Andrew as the rallied for the close win, 21-17. They were paced by Andrew’s two big 12-point rounds in the 8th and 14th innings. Congrats to both teams for putting on a great show in the finals! Crunch Time Sports’ exclusive 2nd Chance Bracket, which gives all teams losing in the 1st round a second chance at winning, was won by the Joe Macs of WC Get on Board! They defeated Shake n Bake in the finals. Remarkably, Joe Mac has taken down his 3rd consecutive 2nd Chance Bracket. For their efforts, WC Get on Board received a $25 O’Keefe’s bar tab and a free entry into our next tournament! Congrats fellas! Paul Herbst is the winner of the “Go Big or Go Home” contest with 9 points! This new contest was a hit with the players and may just take the cornhole world by storm.
