Star Spangled Bags is in the books!
The 2010 Star Spangled Bags cornhole tournament got underway at 12:30 with 18 teams vying for the title at Philthy Phil’s. Pool play would come first as each team played 4 games within their division. There were some close games and some not-so-close ones, just ask Jen and Morgan of “That’s my Belly Button”. Even though they lost 21-0, they won a bottle of vodka for being the first team to get skunked!
Pool play concluded at around 3:00 with 3 teams (ACO Florida, Beers & Hookers, and Sanibel Charters) standing alone as the only ones undefeated. Along with division C champions Children of the Corn, the 4 teams would make up the top 4 seeds in the playoffs. The rest of the teams were seeded and put into the playoffs as well. Only at Crunch Time Sports does EVERY TEAM make the playoffs in the cornhole tournaments!
As the first round of the playoff Championship Bracket came to an end, the winning teams advanced but the 8 losing teams still had a shot as they moved on to the Second Chance Bracket. In the finals of the Second Chance Bracket, the Cornstars faced off against BS. BS would pull out a back and forth battle and win 21-14. Congrats to Sherry and Bob of BS for winning the Second Chance Bracket and some great prizes!
After 3 rounds in the Championship Bracket, the semifinals were set. In the first semifinal, the #1 seed ACO Florida faced off against the #4 seed Children of the Corn. The two-time Crunch Cup winners ACO would take the best-of-three series in 2 games, winning both 21-12. The second semifinal pitted two teams from across the Skyway as the #2 seed Beers & Hookers faced off against the #3 seed Sanibel Charters. This best-of-three matchup started with a marathon game 1, as Sanibel squeaked it out 21-20. Beers & Hookers got back in another long game in game 2, fighting back to win 21-19. Game 3 between these very evenly matched teams would go to Sanibel Charters, winning 21-12.
The finals began as ACO Florida looked to win their third Crunch Cup and Sanibel Charters their first. Game 1 went ACO 21-3, with big efforts from both Matt and Cody. In game 2, ACO once again got out to a big lead and despite a late charge from Sanibel, ACO took it down 21-6. Congratulations to Matt and Cody for winning the tournament! Cody would finish with 24 cornholes in the finals to lead the charge. And congrats also to Ed and Dave of Sanibel Charters who fought hard but came up a little short in 2nd place. Congratulations also go to Joe McLemore Jr. of WC Get on Board for winning the “Go Big or Go Home” contest! All players in the tournament got a chance to participate for free and Joe was the best. He took home a $25 Philthy Phil’s gift card and a CTS t-shirt!
